The Philippines is currently a hot destination for real estate investors who want to purchase or construct real estate properties and take advantage of the country’s booming economy.  Whether its hotels, casinos, condominiums – you name it, new real estate developments are mushrooming not just in Metro Manila but also in other major cities.  With the country’s participation in the ASEAN Economic Community beginning this year, more real estate investments from all over Southeast Asia are expected to pour into the Philippines.

It is this economic upturn and integration that motivated the National Association of REALTORS(R) (NAR) to conduct the  first-ever International REALTORS(R) brand Conference and Regional Leadership Summit outside of the U.S.  The event, which will be held in Manila from July 27 to 30, was organized together with the NAR’s local bilateral partner, the Chamber 0f Real Estate & Builders Associations, Inc. (CREBA).

The two organizations have long been good partners in developing the practice of real estate sales in the country.  CREBA stands as the foremost organization in construction and real estate in the Philippines, while NAR is the global organization that provides its partner organizations with the necessary education in industry ethics and global professional accreditation.

For the International REALTORS(R) Conference and Regional Leadership Summit, NAR and CREBA aim to gather real estate industry leaders and practitioners from all over Asia for a chance to conduct business globally and to enhance their knowledge and skills in real estate sales through a series of talks and lectures from influential experts in the industry.

“What we do in NAR is to provide business networking and referral program opportunities to its members globally, assist our partner organizations in the region standardize and professionalize the practice of real estate.  Thus, attending the International REALTORS(R) Conference and Regional Leadership Summit would be a big educational opportunity for our partners to lift up the standard of real estate practice in their respective countries,” says NAR regional coordinator for Asia-Pacific and Dubai Shonee Henry.

She adds that aside from improving professional standards, the forum is also a venue for industry partners all over Asia to discuss whether there is a need for the real estate industry to become part of the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) of the Asean Economic Community.  Despite the vital role it plays in the economic empowerment of countries, real estate is surprisingly not included as one of the industries in the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).

With several representatives from various NAR cooperating organizations all over Asia-Pacific coming over, the forum will be a wonderful chance for the local real estate industry to show off the Philippines’ potential as a prime real estate destination.

“It’s high time for the Philippines to show its true promise.  For a long time, we’ve been lagging behind other countries, but now we are developing with leaps and bounds,” says CREBA national president Noel Toti M. Cariño.

Currently, the Philippines is number two in Asia in terms of growth.  It has very solid fundamentals regarding revenues, a strong BPO base, and receives large overseas remittances annually.  Despite a growing population of around 100 million, it still has so much land waiting to be developed.  With the prospect of doing business with an international market as well as learning from industry experts, CREBA is more than elated to hold the International REALTORS(R) Conference in the Philippines.

“This is going to be the first time that the International REALTORS(R) Conference and Regional Leadership Summit will be held outside of the US.  It’s very significant for the Philippines because we were chosen as the summit venue at a time when our economy is booming.  With this international forum, we will be able to exchange ideas and practices with some of the best industry players practitioners in the world,” says Cariño.
